OBITUARY: Mr Seymour Arthur May
A CRIBBAGE enthusiast who lived all his life in Trowbridge has died, aged 84.
Mr Seymour Arthur May died suddenly on March 30. The great-grandfather of four was born at home in Upper Broad Street, Trowbridge, to parents Dorothy and Alfred.
He became a stoker in the Navy before returning to Trowbridge and marrying Constance O'Shea in 1950.
They had two daughters Annie and Jackie who both tragically died of cancer in adulthood. Mrs May died in 1978 from a heart condition.
Mr May had various jobs in Trowbridge, including in engineering with Hattersley Heaton, in Bradley Road.
He had four grandchildren Simon, 37, Jamie, 33, Becky, 20 and Abbie, 17.
Jamie's wife, Tracey Brewer 36, said: "He was funny; quite amusing. He used to love to sing to us when we went round to visit. He would always break into song."
Mr May, who lived in Talbot Road for 54 years until his death, was a great cribbage player who played regularly at his local pub, the Anchor and Hope in Frome Road.
As well as enjoying the odd pint, Mr May was an avid Chelsea Football Club supporter.
Mother-of-two Mrs Brewer said: "He was a Chelsea fan up until they sacked Jose Mourinho.
"He loved his pint too and was always telling jokes."
Mr May also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Beth, 13, Jack, 10, Harry, three and Holly, two.
His funeral will take place at Trowbridge Cemetery Chapel on Tuesday at 3pm. Relatives have requested family flowers only but donations in his memory can be made to Dorothy House Hospice.
