BIRTH: Maxwell Sutherland
BABY Maxwell was nearly born in the car park of Trowbridge Hospital after he took his mother Jacquelin by surprise.
Maxwell, named after his father's grandfather, was born at 11.27am, only seven minutes after Mrs Sutherland and her husband Mark had arrived at the hospital.
Mrs Sutherland, 29, said the contractions started at home.
"I was in excruciating pain and I was screaming for Mark," she said.
"I was leaning on the banister and Mark said get off that or you'll break it'."
Mr Sutherland, 39, said: "I phoned the hospital and said can you please have someone waiting by the back door because she is about to give birth.
"At 11.20am we arrived at the hospital, at 11.23am I was in the delivery room and at 11.27am Maxwell was born."
Mr Sutherland added: "She didn't even have time to get the maternity dress on."
The couple were full of praise for the hospital, which they believe plays a vital role in the community.
Mr Sutherland said: "They were absolutely fantastic at Trowbridge Hospital.
"At Trowbridge they are there all the time, every step of the way. If they close the hospital how are they going to fit everyone in at Bath? There will just be a huge bottleneck."
Mrs Sutherland added: "There's no way I would have made it to Bath in time.
"You see your community midwife a lot throughout the pregnancy and you want them to be involved in the birth."
Despite the tricky labour mum and dad were back home within hours.
"I was out the same day and we had a nice chicken dinner when we got home," Mrs Sutherland said.
"And I was out delivering milk the next day," Dairy Home Team owner Mr Sutherland added.
Maxwell will add to the Sutherlands' growing family with children Andrew, 19, Charlotte, five and Elinore, four.
