OBITUARY: Audrey Anderson
A PASSIONATE singer and conductor from Melksham has died at the age of 86.
Audrey Anderson, of Savernake Avenue, died at the Mavern House nursing home in Corsham Road, Shaw, on Monday from a stroke.
Mrs Anderson, who was born and grew up in Melksham, was a devoted member of the Westbury Choral Society for 16 years.
She also sung for the Congregational Church, now known as the Rachel Fowler Centre in Market Place, Melksham, where she met and married her husband Edward, 83.
They married in 1949 and had three sons Ian, 58, Philip, 50 and Neil, 48.
Mr Anderson said: "She was immersed in music really. Choirs were her passion.
"She was a delightful person, full of beans."
Mrs Anderson, whose maiden name was Burchell, worked as a tracer at Spencer's in Melksham before becoming a full-time mum and moving to Leicester with her husband in 1950.
Mrs Anderson was also a fan of bowls and had played often at Trowbridge Park.
The family relationship with the congregational church was evident throughout the generations with Mrs Anderson's father Tom having played the organ there for many years.
Mrs Anderson has three granddaughters Emma, Stephanie and Fiona, and one grandson Robert.
Her funeral will take place at West Wiltshire Crematorium in Semington on Wednesday, April 16 at 1pm.
Family flowers only with donations, if desired, to the Wiltshire Rural Music School and the Stroke Society.
