OBITUARY: Mr Raymond Jones
A FORMER president of the Lions Club in Trowbridge has died from cancer, aged 68.
Raymond Jones, of Hilperton, died on Tuesday after a brief illness. The proud grandfather had lived in Trowbridge all his life and went to John of Gaunt School.
Mr Jones was a self-employed builder and later became maintenance work co-ordinator for West Wiltshire District Council.
Tragedy struck 10 years ago when his wife Gillian and 25-year-old daughter Amanda died within months of each other.
His daughter Melissa Grady, 40, of Midsomer Norton, said: "He was known for having his own mind. He was a workaholic and didn't like to be sat idle. He was always doing something, usually for other people, and was a very, very physical man."
Mr Jones was a keen member of the Trowbridge Lions and enjoyed doing up his MG Midget, as well as reading, the theatre and music.
He was extremely fond of his grandchildren Toby, seven and Katy, five, and also leaves Lizzie McGrath, who he deemed his most special friend'.
