| Do you remember Joan Blamey? |
Joan Blamey lived and worked in the Westbury area during the mid to late sixties. She worked as a computer programmer but also lived and worked in the Angel Inn for a while. She was in her mid twenties and had dark hair. She returned to her native Cornwall in 1969 and remained there until she took a fateful flight to Austria. The flight crashed in 1971 over Belgium killing all on board. I am looking for collegues or friends or anyone who might remember her. Please get in touch.

I am researching model car racing in the Swindon area during the 1940’s - early 50’s. Would it be possible through your “letters’ page” to ask if anyone has any recollections of the north Wiltshire Model Car Club or Swindon Model Car Club. The names of any of the members and where the track was located.
I am also seeking any information about the following three businesses and their owners, that were involved in the sale of petrol model racing cars in this period. --Hobbies Corner, 10 Rodbourne Road, --124 Victoria Road and --Steels Garage, Drove Road.
Mr Clark and Mr F.W Francillon Of Steels Garage, Drove Road, produced a kit of parts to make a car about 24” long powered by a 10 CC engine, these were run on a tether line.
Any recollections or photographs, copies or originals, would greatly appreciated and all original photographs will be returned.

I have been trying to find out some information on Gillian Towers and her brother Brian Towers who are very special to our family.
Although they were brought up in Dublin, I know that Gillian spent some time in Wiltshire with an aunt in 1959 before returning to Ireland and later Canada.
Gillian would be 71 now, she also went under the name of Gillian Boyce.
The Brian Towers in question would be 76 now, he was brought up and educated in Dublin where his father was a bank manager in Dublin. A qualified engineer, Brian left Ireland for Toronto, Canada in the late 1950s.

Im trying to trace a lady called Blanche who was my late mums friend. My parents lived in Westbury and in Holt in the 40s and 50s. My dad was killed in a car accident on The Bratton Westbury in Feb 1956 aged 36. He was the milkman for Holt and surrounding areas at the time. After his death my mum moved to Sheffield with myself aged 9 and my sister aged 7. I do not have a surname for Blanche but know there was a Blanche Driscoll at my dads funeral. Maybe thats her. All I want is to know about my parents life in Wiltshire. If anyone knows of Blanche, or knew my parents Bill and Win Harvey, please get in touch. It would mean so much to me. My only recollection of Wilshire is of living at Hunts Hall Farm in Holt.

Are there any readers who know or are descendants of these Bradford on Avon families?
The Longs had strong connections with the Congregational Church, and some are well documented on the B o A website.
I know there were daughters of Harold Little (who ran a coach company), possibly Nina and Diane.
On the Bendall branch of my family research is a Richard Bendall who married Charlotte Alexander at the Parish Church on 15. Nov. 1818. I have had no luck in tracing his birth or parents. His daughter Sarah, born about 1820 married George Eyles 23. Feb 1843, and probably settled in the Trowbridge area. My direct line is through Sarah's brother Abraham, born 1831.
If you think you might have relevant information to share I would be most grateful.
Through this site I would like to congratulate the webmaster of bradford-on-avon.org for a really fantastic site, - hours of interesting history to explore.

| BULLOCK Family of Chippenham |
My great-great grandfather was born Daniel Richard Bullock in 1841 in Chippenham. He moved to New Zealand about 1865, where he changed his name to Richard Hudson.
I would really like to find any members of the BULLOCK family still living in the Chippenham area - or, of course, any members of the BULLOCK family living anywhere!
Daniel's parents were John BULLOCK (c.1792-1847, buried in St Andrews churchyard) and Susannah MORGAN (c.1802-1858, buried in London Road Cemetery).
John's parents were William BULLOCK and Mary TANNER. He had at least one brother (Daniel) and at least two sisters (Sarah and Elizabeth).
It is possible that William BULLOCK's parents were Daniel BULLOCK and Hannah FIELD.
If anyone is related to any of these BULLOCKs (or, indeed, MORGAN, TANNER or FIELD) I would be most interested to hear from you. |
