Steve White, of Trowbridge, has shed some light on this mystery photo, featured in a recent Down Memory Lane.
The picture, which hangs on the wall in the George Inn, Lacock, has prompted many customers to ask about its origins.
Mr White said: "I can confirm that this picture appears on Page 6 of Calne on Camera, and depicts builders, Messrs J Sutton and Son rebuilding the bridge carrying The Strand over the River Marden, circa 1909.
"This is an interesting photographic history of Calne and its changing face and I am proud to say that my late grandfather, and ex-Mayor of Calne, Les Carpenter contributed to the book, a copy of which I still have and would be happy to show to anyone who, like myself, is interested in Calne, having spent my formative years there."
