My Wiltshire Life - David Tucker
David Tucker
David Tucker

DAVID Tucker, 67, is chairman of the Southwick Allotment Society, which has around 20 expertly cultivated plots on land near to Southwick Country Park. If it involves vegetables Mr Tucker is your man.

As well as being a judge at vegetable shows, he is also secretary of the National Vegetable Society South West District Association. He lives in Trowbridge with his wife Sandra and collects tractors, which he says makes ploughing his allotment very much easier.

How would your best friend describe you?

As all the things a wife would not want in a husband! Likeable and game for a laugh.

Where would you recommend for a great evening out?

I don't drink or smoke so I'd say a night out at the Arc Theatre in Trowbridge or watching Trowbridge Operatic Society.

What do you do for fun?

I like the football and I love walking our dog Paddy.

My wife and I love nature and the countryside. We take great pleasure from watching all the birds that visit our garden.

Describe your most vivid dream.

I've always wanted to travel down the Amazon river. I've been there with my wife and we loved the wildlife. It's fascinating.

Who in the public eye do you most respect and why?

I've always liked Princess Anne. She says what she thinks and she's a strong person. I've met her several times at official things.

What is your biggest regret?

There's too many really. I think we'd all change things if we could go back.

What is your favourite television programme?

I love wildlife programmes. There's several of them on the television at the moment and I think they're amazing.

What makes you sad?

Dark nights when all that's on the TV is Coronation Street.

Describe your perfect day.

I'd get up early and have a damn good cup of tea. Then I'd head off to a good vegetable show and meet up with all my old friends.

Maybe I'd win a few categories and lose a few and argue it out with the judges. I'd have a good laugh with everyone and then come back cream crackered for a nice sleep.
