Don’t lose your right to vote!

Don't lose your right to vote! All electoral registration forms must be returned to the District Council no later than 16 November for entries to be included on the new register of electors for 2008.

It is a legal requirement to have your name entered on the electoral register and not being listed can also affect your credit rating, as credit reference companies use the register for proof of address.

The Council is again using an internet and phone system to help people confirm their electoral details. If the information on the registration form is complete and correct for the household, this can be confirmed either by freephone or via the Internet (details of which are on the form), saving people the trouble of posting the paperwork back.

However, anyone wanting to make any changes must fill in the form and send it back to the Council.

Principal elections officer Caroline Rudland said: "The forms sent to households give the details of all people registered at that address for 2007. In the vast majority of cases, those details will be unchanged. By giving people the option of confirming this either on the phone or via the Internet, it will hopefully make it easier for them and will also save us valuable processing time. People should also be aware that paying council tax does not mean they are automatically on the electoral register."
