I have to respond to the letter (Wiltshire Times, June 13) entitled Don’t blame the workers.

I have observed the grass cutting teams in my area turning up to cut grass and then standing around for at least half an hour chatting before they even consider getting the mower off of the trailer to be able to start work.

At the moment the grassed area where I live represents a farmer’s hay field with dead dry grass lying around and getting blown about and in some areas the grass has only been half cut as it has been left for so long that the mower cannot cope with it. Perhaps the residents of Trowbridge deserve a rate rebate as we are not getting the service that we pay for.

Mr R A Naish, Chalfont Close, Trowbridge.
