I am involved with a military charity in creating some exhibits for various fundraising events or, possibly, for permanent display.
One subject in the display is a World War One private soldier, Harold E Baker who enrolled as a full-time, not conscripted, soldier. He was in the Wiltshire Regiment (number 20170), was then either wounded or taken ill and returned to service in the Leicestershire Regiment as number 41716.
We would very much like to know if there are any family descendants of Mr Baker still in Wiltshire. It would be fascinating to learn if he returned to that region after the war, or where he went, and what family connections he had.
Was he your grandfather, great-uncle? Please do get in touch if you can help. We would love to find out more about this gentleman’s life.
