Readers will recall that in March the Trowbridge & District White Ensign Association announced that we were proposing, on behalf of the ex-Service community in the town, to raise funds for the restoration of the Grade-II listed war memorial at Holy Trinity Church in Trowbridge.
This project would mark our commemoration of the outbreak of the First World War and would be a fitting tribute to those men named on the memorial who gave their lives in the service of our country.
We are pleased to confirm that we are about half-way to our target figure of £18,000, with some applications to grant-making bodies still to be decided. We are launching an appeal for public donations for the project at the forthcoming Veterans Weekend in Trowbridge Park, starting on Saturday. We would be delighted to accept any donations at our White Ensign stand at the Show.
Should any readers not be able to come along on the weekend but wish to support our appeal cheques, made out to Trowbridge White Ensign Memorial Fund, can be sent to our secretary, Graham Payne, 9 Dursley Road, Trowbridge. BA14 0NN.
Tony Pocock, Chairman, Trowbridge & District White Ensign Association, Trowbridge.
