I am writing as chairman of the Trowbridge Area Board to express our appreciation to the Wiltshire & Swindon Fire and Rescue Service for containing and extinguishing the fire at the Shanley’s scrapyard, Trowbridge over the weekend.
The swift manner in which the firefighting teams dealt with what was the biggest fire in Trowbridge for some time was in the finest traditions of the service and all involved are to be congratulated on the professional manner in which they dealt with the incident.
Also noteworthy was the way in which the FBU members continued to fight the fire even though they were due to be taking part in industrial action soon after the fire was first reported.
Our grateful thanks to all concerned.
Graham Payne, Councillor, Chairman, Trowbridge Area Board.
