Congratulations to the many organisations who helped make the Armed Forces Weekend in Trowbridge so memorable.
This was certainly a wonderful occasion when another page in our history was written by the granting of the Freedom of the town to the Royal Regiment of Artillery.
It would be interesting to know however if many of the hundreds gathered in the Park realised that our fine and recently restored Bandstand would be soon be celebrating its 75th Anniversary.
This was opened on July 22, 1939, having been presented to the townspeople of Trowbridge by Mr W Nelson Haden, and the first band to perform was that of the Royal Artillery from Portsmouth.
In my collection of old newspapers I have a photograph taken at the time: somewhere in the large crowd would be myself as a small boy, probably watching from nearly the same spot as on Saturday.
