I read with interest the letter from John Medlicott concerning the granting of planning permission for Spurt Mead in Warminster. Mr Medlicott is absolutely right in his analysis of the ecological disaster that confronts this untouched river-fronting meadow.
However, the whole situation is even worse, as between them Warminster and Wiltshire Councils have:
* failed to comply with requirements for Flood Risk Assessment and Management Plans and have no historical flood data for a site and area that is known to flood,
*allowed a dangerous precedent for Wiltshire to be set by giving permission to develop a site that is not included within the Core Strategy. The development of Spurt Mead is completely unnecessary to meet the numbers of houses required in the Core Strategy. So watch out if you live on the edge of a settlement boundary as the councils won’t have a leg to stand on.
* been seduced by the slick sales speak of the developers and
* failed to visit the site before the important vote was taken.
Sadly you couldn’t make this up if you tried.
