I would like to draw to the attention of residents of Wiltshire to the latest consultation by Wiltshire Council that could see bus passes only being able to be used after 9.30am.

It seems to me that once again Wiltshire Council is looking to save £180,000 at the expense of the elderly and disabled. It could be suggested that if leading councillors hadn’t taken their eye-watering increases in the allowances these cuts wouldn’t now be necessary.

I would encourage residents to take part in this consultation which can be found online at http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/council/consultations.htm Comments must be in by September 26. Why not also contact your local councillor don’t leave it to someone else. It’s disappointing that the council is planning to consult a random sample of bus pass users. In my view they should be making more of an effort to talk to the people who use the service.

What makes councillors think that passes aren’t required before 9.30am, do they forget it’s not only OAPs that use these passes, many younger people who are disabled, rely on these passes for work or college. Not to mention those who need the pass to reach the doctors or hospital.

Councillor Terry Chivers, Independent, Melksham Without North.
