There was a great swell of disapproval concerning the spread of wind farms on agriculture land, led by campaigns in the press.

The result was quite rightly the halting of land-based construction of these farms by government action. The impact on the countryside from wind farms pales into insignificance compared with the melanoma of solar farms. The destruction of our green and pleasant land is threatened by the advance of this cancer on our landscape.

I am NOT opposed to solar panel installations, but just where it is proposed to install them.

Is the view below one we wish to replicate at Little Chalfield, Hilperton or Sandridge?

There are huge numbers of business parks, retail trading complexes, industrial units throughout the country where solar panels could be installed on the roofs of the buildings, and additionally there are large numbers of supermarket car parks where panels could be installed on canopies erected over the parked cars.

It is not just aesthetically I am objecting to these sites, it is the practical as well. In the future there will be great demands on our agriculture to increase output. This increase will be required as the populations of the emerging nations increase and also seek to improve their living standards. The increase in demand for food will result in a large hike in world food prices. We will need to aim for greater self sufficiency!

We need to think smarter about our use of land. Use it to our greatest advantages and preserve it for future generations.
