I was over the moon to read in the latest Wiltshire Times that Wiltshire Council has graciously granted Bradford on Avon Youth Centre a possible reprieve, and is willing to discuss a Community Asset Transfer with the Town Council.

I must also pay credit to Bradford on Avon Town Council which hasstepped in to take on an asset that is actually beneficial to the town’s population.

However, this sadly begs the question, why aren’t we being granted the same right for Court Mills in Trowbridge?

As per my letter a few weeks ago, I attempted to launch a Community Asset Transfer for Court Mills but was told this was not possible.

Court Mills is a vital asset for our community and many vulnerable and needy people will unnecessarily suffer from its closure.

The Prince’s Trust Team Programme is another prime example of a group that will suffer with Court Mills’ closure.

Many of Trowbridge's unemployed young people have benefited from this programme, but it’s continued delivery in Trowbridge is under serious threat.

Is it right that a Trowbridge community asset should be sold to pay for council offices in Salisbury and Chippenham? Is it right that disabled users should suffer so council staff can have a new office in Trowbridge? Is it right that, yet again, Trowbridge misses out?

Where are the Trowbridge voices in Wiltshire Council? Where are the councillors with a directly line to Jane Scott and Jonathan Seed?

I implore Wiltshire Council to at least consider an asset transfer for Court Mills. Please, for once, put the people of Trowbridge first.

There are no other suitable premises in Trowbridge that offer the same value to the community.

If Court Mills goes, everyone in Trowbridge will suffer, and our town will be a lesser place as a result.

Chris Auckland, Lockeridge Close, Trowbridge.
