It has been suggested that some importance should be given to the 1.6 million Scots who voted for Scottish independence. The referendum was conducted in accordance with pre-determined rules and the result was in accordance with those rules.
I do not recall any protests being made in respect of the 14.7 million voters who did not vote Labour in the 2005 General Election – Labour received just 9.5 million votes but still formed the government on the grounds that they had 91 more seats. Once again this was in accordance with the electoral rules.
