I had the pleasure to attend the Trowbridge MENUNITED civic breakfast at the Civic Centre on Saturday, commemorating the First World War.
MENUNITED is a Christian organisation which regularly holds inspirational meetings, including breakfasts, usually for men.
I was enthralled by the interesting information on offer and the standard of the guest speakers. Dr Andrew Murrison MP gave his view of the War and I now know, like many of us, he likes Blackadder Goes Forth.
Martyn Whittock, a Warminster school teacher, gave a historical overview of events leading up to the war and we were treated to a glimpse of a film, Letters from a Small Town by Richard Broadhead, explaining the war from the perspective of ordinary local people.
The Rev Dr Philip McCormack, an army chaplain, gave us an insight into the role of chaplains during all wars, including modern day conflicts; I felt truly humbled to listen to his moving accounts.
I would like to thank all those concerned and I thoroughly recommend their events to everyone.
Councillor Deborah Halik, Dursley Road, Trowbridge.
