The letter praising wind turbines was typical of the section of the community comprising intellectuals, ‘greens’, Lib Dems, Guardian readers etc who think they have a right to impose on others outrageous solutions to the energy crisis, whilst of course exempting themselves.

They are always very quick to accuse others of NIMBYism. I ask a simple question: why is it that without exception these people seem to live miles away from the nearest large wind turbine, in places where they are unlikely ever to be faced with a massive industrial machine constantly turning high in the sky close to their homes? Let them volunteer to move to live near a large wind turbine, perhaps buying, on the cheap, a property which has otherwise been made unsaleable.

Doubtless they will feel they are getting good value for money from the extra subsidies they are being charged on their electricity bills to help the poor wind industry meet its costs whilst making hardly any profit.

I look forward to that day with interest, but meanwhile may those of us with very real concerns about the wind turbine madness please be allowed to air them without scornful abuse from fanatical climate-change do-gooders?
