Since the building of the new Dauntsey Gate estate east of Melksham, and the extension of Snowberry Lane into Thyme Road, we have seen a vast increase in traffic using this route, which shouldn’t be a problem – after all we all knew that this will in the end form the new Melksham bypass to eventually bypass the long suffering village of Beanacre, and other places on the A350.
However, the problem is now that in opening up this new road, we seem to have opened up an unofficial Melksham bypass. Motorists are now using Snowberry Lane, Thyme Road, and then using New Road, Forest Lane and onto Lacock, to bypass the town, which is their right to do, but it’s far from a good solution for local residents and other road users and people living along this route.
We have and will see hundreds of homes built in and around Melksham. Just how much longer are we going to have to wait to see our roads upgraded, and that includes the build of the Melksham bypass to bypass Beanacre and other suffering parts of the town?
Councillor Terry Chivers, Independent Melksham Without North, Eden Grove, Whitley.
