Our thanks must go to the Royal British Legion, Trowbridge Town Council, and all other organisations who had any part in the events on Remembrance Sunday.

There was standing room only in St James Church for the moving service so ably led by Dr Rob Thomas and, as was reported in the Wiltshire Times, following the Parade, there were some 2,000 people at the war memorial.

For interest I looked at a newspaper photograph from 1988, when at that time there were probably only about two or three hundred at the war memorial. This perhaps illustrates the present change of feeling in recent years. Many of the older folk would naturally have still thought back to the sacrifices made by loved ones lost in the two World Wars, but sadly we are now at a time when the terrible conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq have affected so many lives.

It was therefore good to see so many of all ages coming together to remember and honour those who have laid down their lives for our freedom. We will remember them.
