Mr Geoffrey Richards (Letters, January 2) creates a problem which does not exist. A simple, well known and inexpensive, solution is to also connect an “old-fashioned corded phone to the landline”.
Unlike the cordless variety, this does not require mains electricity to operate, and can be bought for a fiver.
