Anyone who has visited County Hall in Trowbridge will know as far as parking is concerned, it’s almost impossible to find a parking space. I can’t argue that County Hall was badly in need of an urgent makeover, but I’m still not convinced that the sums add up.

But it’s clear that no consideration was given to public, or staff parking.

It’s all very well saying that public transport should be used, or staff should car share but that is not always possible.

Anyone who has visited the new County Hall or library will know that they will be greeted with visitors and staff cars parked on double yellow lines, on pavements and in disabled bays. There is just nowhere else to park.

I can’t help to wonder when planning permission was given for the project, that if it had been anyone else but Wiltshire Council, permission would have been refused due to the lack of parking.

When you look at the total cost of our new County Hall, I can’t help wonder if it may have been cheaper to have sold it and start from scratch and build a new County Hall, after all, we all knew it wasn’t fit for purpose, and now they are spending thousands of pounds repairing the roof on the old building.

Who says it has to be in Trowbridge? Yes it’s the county town, but we have moved the records office to Chippenham. What aboutthe former George Ward School in Melksham, that Wiltshire Council has sold for housing.

It’s all too late now so the public and staff will have to just suffer the car parking chaos.
