I and many villagers are strongly opposed to the proposed residential development of land off Melksham Road in Holt.

If it goes ahead there will be many problems in the future for our next generations.

The reason for objecting are many and are these:

* High density development will turn a relatively quiet area into a busy traffic area – vehicles during rush hours will use Great Parks and Little Parks as a rat run to easier access the main road.

* An extra 100 cars leaving in the morning and returning at the end of the day will massively add to the congestion at Staverton and the Melksham bypass. It’s bad enough now.

* Flash flooding occurs in high density developments as soakaways do not work in clay ground when there is heavy rainfall.

* Sewerage works will be overloaded.

* Noise and pollution will greatly increase in a relatively quiet neighbourhood.

* Further outward development will open the floodgates for future development.

Green belt, good quality farmland should not be sacrificed for the greed of developers; they will leave with their profits and leave the future villagers to sort out the damage.
