Congratulations and a big thanks to the organisers of Armed Forces Weekend in Trowbridge – not least to the many who played such an important part in the exciting programme.

The park was packed with thousands of people. This was in itself an experience and many memories will live on.

For me one of those was witnessing the engine of the Spitfire being started up and knowing that many of these fighters were built in Trowbridge during the war.

Then the flypast of the Hurricane which so valiantly fought alongside the Spitfire in the Battle of Britain.

On Sunday afternoon we witnessed the parade through the town, with servicemen and so many local organisations taking part.

It was a wonderful moment with a sense of pride as the various contingents marched past the town hall.

Forces Weekend has become one of the highlights of the year, but it would be even greater if one day the town could be chosen to host the national celebrations.

This is something Trowbridge, with it's rich military history, really deserves.
