I too harbour grave concerns for the flow of traffic in the area around Paxcroft Mead.

Despite assurances from the Wiltshire Council, I cannot see how two lanes can be created since one has already disappeared under earth and new kerb stones. At the very best there will be two very narrow lanes leading into an enlarged roundabout.

The exit from the roundabout to the town is already I feel on the narrow side and this morning (Friday), additional space was being taken up with more new kerbs on the exit from the town into this roundabout. Now I understand from another source that there is to be a weight restriction along Hilperton Road so presumably the intention is to push the traffic down Leap Gate. How long will it be before there is a perceived need to narrow the proper two lanes below the fire station?

I feel that placing restrictions of this kind does nothing whatsoever for traffic flow in this town. We already have the debacle at the station end of Bythesea Road to contend with, the traffic lights around the County Way roundabout – how much more freely does the traffic move when these are out of order? – and watch how HGVs are pushed over to the outer lane of traffic queueing at the lights by the excessively wide pavement here.

Perhaps the highways engineer responsible will take this correspondent to task and explain the reasoning behind this type of decision, particularly in view of the large numbers of new homes to be built in the area and the ever increasing numbers and size of HGVs which have to negotiate these unnecessarily narrow and restrictive new roads. I feel that this development is a backward step too far.
