The election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader is an astonishing result but one which all party members and people throughout the country should greet with relish.

The next election will be Cameron versus Corbyn, with the latter standing up for those who will never be understood by the Tories – the unemployed, the poor, the disabled, those needing basic educational opportunities, those aspiring to be home owners, and indeed our refugee friends abroad wherever they may be.

Our new leader can give us hope as Labour campaigns throughout this Parliament for social justice and equality of opportunity for all. And, economic fairness too.

But not for all – only for those who live on the poverty line, for families who continue to see generational unemployment, for young people who can’t get a long-term secure job, for young families who cannot afford to buy a house where they grew up.

The rest of us will have to get to the back of the queue. What could be fairer than that?

Corbyn will oppose austerity, welfare cuts, failed privatisations in the utility industries, the railways, schools and the NHS. It is time we had a national leader who honestly and sincerely stood up to this economic nonsense.

I hope every Labour MP will now write their speeches with care, so that we can be convinced that they mean what they say on economic fairness, on the failure of mass privatisation, on the wastefulness of many of our country’s resources.

We are not a poor country. We just cannot make the right decisions about where our money goes.

And the media reaction? We can see already what that is. I hope the new Labour leadership can and will come up with serious solutions to the issues of cross-media ownership in the national media, as well as with real independent regulation.

The next drastic step? Every ex-Labour MP to resign immediately from the House of Lords and bring dignity back to the life of our country.

I would be interested to hear the views of people from all walks of politics across Wiltshire.
