Watching Jeremy Corbyn win the Labour Leadership on a huge mandate of 59 per cent has made me feel positive again – positive about politics, positive about democracy, but most importantly positive about Britain’s future.

On Saturday, Labour voters, supporters and affiliates alike voted for a new kind of politics. As a member of South West Wiltshire Constituency Labour Party (CLP) I’m proud we backed Corbyn, along with 151 others CLPs up and down the country.

In May our local candidate George Aylett fought an exciting campaign on values akin to Corbyn’s, and increased the vote here to 14 per cent.

The Lib Dems were knocked into fourth place, quashing rhetoric that Labour voters should vote tactically. George proved there is a Labour following even in rural Wiltshire. Corbyn has proved we don’t always have to accept the status quo. Change can and is happening.

I know others will feel inspired too so if you live in this constituency, whether you’re a member or not, come to an event we’re hosting as the local Labour party.

It’ll be informal, free, with no obligation to sign up to anything. We just want to meet like-minded people.

If you’re worried about the government’s severe austerity measures, their inhuman attitude to the refugee crisis, the dismantling of our NHS & Welfare State or Wiltshire Council’s application for fracking in our beautiful county, then come along.

We want our event to attract people from all ages, all backgrounds and all diversity. We are stronger together, so join us in solidarity to embrace and act on this new kind of politics.

The event is on Thursday, October 8, between 7-8.30pm, so drop by for a while or come for the whole event.

It will be held in the old Town Hall, (that’s the stunning Victorian building on Market Street, Trowbridge, BA14 8EQ, not the council offices). Free coffee and cake will be provided.

Laura Pictor Trowbridge resident & member of the South West Wiltshire Labour Party Thanks for £700 WE DID it! In the Chippenham Half Marathon Pam Poulter made good time for her first half marathon at 2:24 and Debbie Betteridge limped in behind at 2:41.

A few days later and legs still ache a bit.

Thanks to everyone who came to see us, messaged, supported and donated. Very much appreciated.

We have now raised just over £700 for Prostate Cancer UK. Thanks again!
