COVERAGE in the Wiltshire Times, September 25, page 9, of the visit of the Transport Minister to Trowbridge railway station is fine but it has left some voluntary workers upset. The report refers to Heart of Wessex Community Rail Partnership clearing vegetation ahead of the opening, which infers that the voluntary gardeners undertook the work for the visit by the Minister. In fact the gardeners work at many stations between Bristol and Weymouth throughout the year and periodically all assemble at one station for a major one day gardening project, the latter usually in conjunction with Network Rail and First Great Western (now Great Western Railway) staff.

This work is done to enhance the stations and give pleasure to the travelling public. Their major work project on Trowbridge station on September 17 was planned many weeks before the date of the Minister’s visit was known. The two days being adjacent was a coincidence.
