WHO has the right of way on a roundabout? Most people do not know the answer to this as most people think you only have to give way to the right.

However, if the car on the right is not close to the give way line and just travelling too fast for the approaching obstacle, is it correct for him to carry on or for you to go across the roundabout?

The other bad driver behaviour these days is no one plans ahead. They go around a corner at speed, not realising what could be ahead – like a pedestrian crossing or a parked vehicle.

In my years of driving, I have seen some dangerous driving and most of it is caused by the driver not concentrating on what they are doing. They are also not reading the road or are not prepared for potential events.

To overtake in a 30mph zone when the car in front of you is doing 30 is just stupid, but this happens regularly along Woodmarsh Road, North Bradley, despite regular speed checks.

People do not realise that children play football on the sports field and elderly people need to cross over, and they are going faster than the speed limit and overtake in a residential zone.

It amazes me that some of the worst drivers are people taking their children to school.

They often leave it to the last minute and often park without any consideration to other road users or people needing to cross the roads safely. They are also often texting on their mobile phone with their children in the car.

A law stops smoking in cars with children in, but they can’t prevent people not concentrating while texting and driving.

We have speed cameras but we get wise to them so do they really work for road safety or are they just a revenue earner?

I prefer the signs telling you how many accidents happen on this stretch of road and I think you take more notice of that and become more aware that crazy drivers are out there. So if you and they drive crazy, you are going to be lucky or badly injured, if not dead.

Driving a car is dangerous and poor tyres at speed tend to blow. When did you last check yours? Plan ahead or risk being dead or living with the fact that you have caused someone’s death from short-cutting instead of concentrating.
