HATS off to Jenny Powell, Wiltshire Times, October 23. Wake up, she said to our so-called local councillors. No they’re in a coma. I have lived in Trowbridge over 50 years and not one year have they thought about our children. Why don’t they negotiate with a company for a bowling alley and splashdown on Bowyers waste ground. We have had to travel to Bath, Bristol, Swindon and even Poole. But, no, let’s just keep Trowbridge as it is, they say.

I remember in the 60s Eddie Jackman and a businessman tried to get Top Rank to build a ten pin bowling alley on the old swimming pool ground.

No, they said, too swampy, wow. Look what’s there now, a supermarket and space for hundreds of cars. No, what we get is houses with no leisure, restaurants, cafés, estate agents and charity shops. Do we need all these? No. What we want is what we are supposed to be and be proud of: the county town, not a sleeping town going nowhere.
