I HAVE never got into the debate of whether Trowbridge should have two cinemas as I was happy with Trowbridge getting just one cinema.

The campaigning by thousands of people over three decades got us two knocking on the door at once.

However, the first got put into second place. Now with economics there seems a distant prospect of Trowbridge getting a second cinema but do we have a concert hall?

A rock concert hall?

The cinemas allow great entertainment and give people the chances to view plays and opera without going to London.

The work of the cinema managers in Trowbridge is remarkable, bringing live performances to local people and educating in a way I never had growing up in Trowbridge.

The staff working at Trowbridge Odeon Cinema are so friendly and passionate about film, it is unbelievable. People do not realise the hard work they do and the company pays a reward system for every good comment those staff get.

Their pay is low because the government allows discrimination in pay scale levels for age groups. Why should people doing the same job get paid more than a younger person I do not know or can justify?

The minimum wage in age groups is the worst policy this country ever produced. A youngster has the same bills as the rest of us but we still allow this discrimination to continue.

Is it a good policy to allow loans for young people to study to then punish them with low wages because they are below a certain age.

There is a comment of skilled and unskilled workers but is that just in our today's world? These kids are skilled and are more mature than our government realises.

Discrimination takes place in many forms but should the minimum wage be discriminating of ages, or set to a realistic standard that shares the wealth fairly so people can take control of their own lives without help from others.

Can Trowbridge take two cinemas? Yes, if they pay all age groups the same wages and do not discriminate as this is an old-fashioned view. People need to continue to fight discrimination in all its forms.
