I SUGGEST that Wiltshire Council’s New Year’s resolution should be: “We shall be more sympathetic to the needs of our electors and not cut everything we do not have to provide and to take a more transparent attitude to consultation.”
In recent months I have noticed a much harder and snooty attitude from councillors and staff. Examples of this have been their attitude to a request for a speed limit on Caen Hill, closure of public toilets when councillors say they want more tourism and the closure of the children’s centre.
I was very pleased to hear that they had dropped the idea of charging voluntary bodies for the use of space for festivals. A little more charity like this would help public morale and the council should send a monthly list of items for consultation to the local press with dates for replies.
