I WAS recently in correspondence with HMRC, which is not easy as they don’t accept replies to their emails. I eventually got through to a website which invited me to fill out a lengthy questionnaire, although my inquiry was a very simple one.
Among the information required was first name, middle name and surname, the first and last I could complete but not the middle name as I don’t have one. My questionnaire was rejected because of this. I tried N/A but that was also rejected so I then tried “none” which was accepted. In HMRC records I am now Geoffrey none Richards.
Are we likely to see legislation requiring every citizen to have a second name?
