LAST week your letters page printed an open letter to Andrew Murrison MP from Vince Overton of Holt under the heading ‘Undemocratic Vote’.

There was nothing undemocratic about the Brexit vote, the Leave side won by 52 per cent to 48 per cent, that is a majority of 1.3 million voters.

What is undemocratic is the response from some of the Remain side. Would such a letter have been written if they had won by the same margin? It is just a fit of pique from a poor loser. And his comment about the voters’ age group breakdown is both offensive and ageist – 83 per cent of over-55s voted but less than a third of the under-25s – perhaps they were waiting for a Vote App on their iPhone or a Vote icon on Twitter or Facebook?

The majority of the UK have voted to leave the UK and that is just what we will do. There is of course nothing preventing Mr Overton leaving the UK to live in another of the remaining 27 EU members states if he does not like the result.
