I READ with interest the article from Charmian Spickernell of the Campaign to Protect Rural England. She wisely suggests that brownfield sites should have to be built on before greenfield sites are considered for housing.
I am therefore amazed that the proposed Rawlings Farm development (Chippenham) continues to progress through the planning application process. This is a prime greenfield site which has numerous objections from local residents as well as a number of experts.
Additionally, there is a major concern regarding traffic congestion on Cocklebury Road and Station Hill which will come from construction vehicles and eventually the occupants of the proposed 700 houses.
I hope there will be support for local people to oppose the Rawlings Green development when it comes up for decision. Let’s build houses on brownfield sites first, whilst also ensuring that the road infrastructure is in place before any building can start.
