It IS reported that if elected the Labour party plans to put a penny on income tax to finance one of their schemes and calculate that this will raise £6 billion per year.
It is interesting to note that we are currently paying 2p of our income tax, ie £12 billion per year, on foreign aid, which includes payments to China and India. When our own finances are in such a parlous condition is it not time we stopped pretending that we have sufficient spare cash to give handouts to other countries, many of which do not serve a particularly useful purpose?
