I WAS horrified to see that in a year our council, with Swindon, has managed to spend £740,000 on what the council leader describes as “talking among themselves”.
This enormous amount of money has resulted in just 37 people starting courses. The promise of an extra 397 extra Higher Futures learners is not much consolation as it is scheduled for four years ahead.
Surely there should have been some control over the people running this scheme and a full explanation is required of how they managed to fritter away so much money on talking among themselves. I hope that heads will roll over this wilful extravagance.
The council leader says that she is disappointed at the scheme’s poor progress but it is astonishing that it has required a year and the expenditure of £740,000 to trigger her disappointment.
