I AM intrigued by the apparent lack of rhyme or reason in the UK’s naming of countries. Some are known by an English version of the name and some by the native name eg Peking is now called Beijing and Bombay Mumbai but who uses the Italian name of Fiorenza for Florence or even Wien or Munchen for Vienna and Munich.
There are numerous other examples of places being called either by their correct name or an English version and particularly with the more recent names it seems very inconsistent.
