Dr Murrison, has this Government gone mad? How on earth, in these times of austerity, can you countenance spending £1.5 billion on burying a section of the A303 just to protect Stonehenge and the sunset? What complete and utter nonsense.
A spokesperson, I believe of either National or English Heritage, has also suggested that it would ease the traffic congestion. This is complete and utter balderdash, unless of course it includes a dual carriageway from Amesbury to Wincanton and even if it did, I seriously question the implied cost.
There is no justification spending that sort of money on a tunnel, particularly when the A350 between Warminster and Chippenham is in far greater need of upgrading along this whole length, and if carried out would greatly improve safety in improved traffic management, provide a huge boost to the local economy and thus bring prosperity to this part of Wiltshire.
Come on, let’s have a reality check. I hope that you will bring a common sense view and promote West Wiltshire whom you represent.
