TWO or three years ago my doctor advised me to give up car ownership after 59 years.
I thought to be without a car would be a great loss, however, looking at the costs involved, I now sit back on a free bus and smile; look at the following:
New car cost: £10,000. Insurance: £500. Re-sale value after three years: £5,000? Total cost over three years: £6,500.
Of course there are other ways of doing it – run old car into the ground, OK but then there are MOT repairs which could be high.
I can understand someone with a wife and children running a car, but not me, an elderly person living alone. I know what I have said is true, the money is jingling in my back pocket.
