ONCE again as the days of autumn draw on we shall as a mation in a time honoured way once again remember those gallant men and women who have given their lives in many conflicts right up to the present time.
For us as a family this year has been poignant as we have thought of our uncle, Walter Stanley Jones, who was killed at the Battle of Passchendaele in September 1917. This was of course before our time but it was humbling to visit the Tyne Cot Memorial in Belgium a few years back.
As these anniversaries come around memories passed down do not fade but become more dear. and I know many will share in this.
We have also recently been again so forcibly reminded of the Second World War, particularly with the epic film Dunkirk.. So many thousands were miraculously rescued in those dark days of 1940 but many others in the air and on land and sea gave their lives that we as a nation might remain free from the tyranny threatening to engulf
On Remembrance Sunday young and old will gather around memorials in town squares and local parks. In Whitehall others will stand alongside members of our Royal Family, joining in the homage.
In the quiet of their homes many will watch on on television or listen on radio.
In those moments let us all hear again those words: “When You Go Home Tell them of Us And Say, For their Tomorrow We gave Our Today”
