In response to Mr Lauder’s letter entitled ‘why no fines’ in Lacock on Boxing Day, I can confirm it was my decision to have two enforcement officers there for a few hours to remind drivers of the parking restrictions. Their job was to move drivers on if they were contemplating parking in restricted areas.

Experience in the past is that Lacock gets gridlocked on Boxing Day causing immense frustration to those trying to leave. This year it was much easier due the attendance of these officers who worked in conjunction with the police.

Although no fines were issued, a number of warnings were given to remind drivers of the new restrictions that were only completed a few months ago.

Jonathon Seed was not the decision maker. I made the decision during a meeting I attended in Lacock with parking officers, the parish council, the National Trust, the police and Mr Seed. When making the decision I considered this was a small cost to help the police in their job of keeping traffic flowing to and from the village and one that was much appreciated by many of the visitors.
