THE Cosy Club in Bath is one of those places that if you aren’t paying attention, you may walk straight past, and what a shame that would be.

From the moment you walk into the speakeasy-esque restaurant you are greeted by friendly staff who are more than happy to find you a table and ensure your evening goes as smoothly as possible. My friend James and I were sat at a table not far from the bar and given our menus, after reading through the rather expansive drinks list I decided to push the boat out and have one of their Long Peach Iced Teas (£7.50) whilst my friend opted for a lemonade, which I was quite glad about as he was driving back.

The menu boasted a wide variety of different dishes, from tapas to salads, burgers to salmon, you would be hard pushed to find something that didn’t cater to your taste. We decided to share three tapas dishes as our starter, and for three options for £11.95 it was hard to say no. We chose pork and beef meatballs, tomato and basil fritters and chorizo and pulled chicken, all of which arrived quickly. Each one of the dishes was packed with flavour, especially the chilli jam that came with the fritters, along with a side of ciabatta the starters were gone in a matter of minutes.

The friendly waitress came over and cleared our table, making sure we were okay for drinks, before returning with our main courses a few minutes later. The wait in between courses seemed to fly by as we comfortably sat back and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, even for a quiet Monday night you didn’t feel rushed or like someone was staring at you the whole time.

Our mains were placed down in front of us, James having a chicken, chorizo and sweet potato salad dressed in balsamic and honey (£8.95) while I just went for the Hero Burger (£10.95) which was packed with beef, pulled pork, chorizo, tomato and chipotle mayo, with a side order of skin-on fries and red cabbage coleslaw. The salad, whilst it was fresh and well presented, was described by my friend as drowning in dressing, which apparently didn’t have a strong flavour, which was a shame but he still happily ate it.

The burger had a different problem, the beef was slightly overdone which made it a bit dry, but I easily could’ve asked for it to be more on the medium side so I didn’t really have an issue with it. Having some foresight, I ordered a side of the garlic mayonnaise and that saved it all as it was packed with flavour and was definitely fresh and homemade.

Deciding not to go for dessert, we both ordered one last drink, I went for a Tanqueray and tonic whilst James went for a coffee, both of which topped off the evening nicely.

In total, the meal came to £52.90 with our first drink taken off as part of the Monday deal. There was no hesitation to leave a tip as we had been treated very well from start to finish.

The Cosy Club earned its name on Monday, and whilst I may not rush back, I would definitely return there for a light bite, drink or a full meal.
