HUNDREDS of visitors are likely to flock to Lacock this weekend as the village celebrates the welcome return of its annual scarecrow trail.

This year’s adult theme is the ‘Best of British’ and the children’s theme is ‘Animals’. There will be more than 50 scarecrows scattered around the village for visitors to find.

Many of the scarecrows have been built with materials supplied by the Wiltshire Scrapstore charity which is based in the village.

Organisers have laid out a main trail and a children’s trail on routes around the idyllic National Trust village which often stars in major blockbuster Hollywood films such as the Harry Potter series.

They said: “We have fun inflatables, refreshments, a home-made cake stall and a barbecue, plus ice creams to help visitors stay cool in the heat.

“It will be a lovely day out for all the family, with fantastic prizes on offer. All ages are welcome.”

The trail is taking place today and tomorrow from 9am to 4pm. There is no need to book and trail sheets will be on sale at the National Trust car park.

It has been organised by the Friends of Lacock CofE Primary School and proceeds from the sale of trail sheets will go to the school which has only 80 pupils.
