WORK to deliver the new Devizes Health Centre is on track to be completed by summer next year.

Construction on the £10.9m state-of-the-art health centre is forecast to finish next summer. The centre has been the subject of lengthy discussions for some time.

But, in May this year, it was green lit to commence with building work on land close to Marshall Road later this month.

The partners on the project, which include Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group, NHS Property Services and Kier Construction have released time lapse footage showing the progress of the build, with the shell of the new building now complete.

The new health centre will be a first-of-its-kind for the region and will bring together a wide-range of health services under the one roof.

Services currently provided by Wiltshire Health and Care at the Devizes Community Hospital will be moving to the health centre.

This is alongside a range of outpatient services provided by the Royal United Hospitals Bath and some of Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust’s community mental health services.

Patients of four local GP practices – Lansdowne Surgery, Market Lavington Surgery, St James Surgery and Southbroom Surgery – will be able to be referred for same or next-day medical care at the new health centre.

This state-of-the-art development promises enhanced services in an improved setting and will be one of the NHS' first net-zero buildings.

The site will have an energy EPC rating of A+, and will make use of green technology, such as heat pumps and solar panels.

Dr Richard Sandford-Hill, GP at Market Lavington Surgery and board member of the Devizes Primary Care Network said: “We are excited to see the health centre building coming to life.

“The new centre will give us much-needed additional space for health services in the area, making it easier for patients to access the care they need locally.

“We are looking forward to working alongside our partners in health care, all under one roof.”
