The Foresters hosted a very entertaining gig on Saturday, stepping in at the last minute to rescue a fundraiser for the GBSS Charity, which supports bereaved families and fights to have NHS testing for the GBS infection which kills and maims several hundred newborn babies annually in the UK. An outstanding evening of local talent who all gave their services for free and raised over £130 for GBSS.

The acts included young newcomer Courtney Buchanan (14) who, despite having a cold and cough, breezed through 5 covers ( 3 with guitar backing from mobsta mainman Mel ), particularly impressive on Lilly Allen’s The Fear and on the acoustic version of Christina Perri’s Jar Of Hearts.

She was followed by 16 year old singer/guitarist Chloe Turvey, who has an impressive upper range to her voice and a wide choice of song styles – from 60’s Beatles to very current Twin Atlantic’s Crash Land.

Third up was the youngest act, Jordan Cooke (13), with her best performance yet at a mobsta gig, impressing an enthusiastic audience with her rapping ability on Ed Sheeran’s ‘I Don’t Need You’ and getting them all joining in on an acoustic version of Jessie J’s Price Tag. 17 year old Hannah West followed , accompanied by guitarist friend Scott, with a mix of very classy originals and some well-chosen covers including a great rendition of Kings Of Leon’s Use Somebody’ . This young lady has a great voice, writes great songs and very much looks the part.

And the same can be said about Audrey Tietz, vocalist/guitarist with headliners Terrapin, who performed an outstanding set of mostly original material. Her voice works beautifully solo ( as on her haunting original Fire ) or in conjunction with fellow vocalist/guitarist Luke Bailey, whose own voice brings to mind Thom Yorke. These are excellent musicians both individually ( Dom Bailey on drums/keys, Reno on bass and Leo Goodhind on guitar) and now collectively. The songs are emotional and carefully constructed.
