I am always in admiration of anyone who possesses the triple talents of being able to dance, sing, and act well all at the same time.

The ability to project those talents into a large auditorium space such as Dauntsey’s would be a mammoth challenge for a professional company let alone a group of amateurs, made even greater by the lack of tiered seating.

There were solid performances from most of leads in this Devizes Musical Theatre ensemble, and while some of the larger chorus scenes lacked overall energy and pizzazz, there were sufficient individual members of the chorus who possessed that special sparkle to captivate the audience.

This was particularly true from some of the younger members of the DMT Footlights group.

Tor Burt was particularly well cast as the sassy Tracy Lord, who, together with younger sister Dinah, played by Lavington School pupil Emma Bogert, gave one of the evening’s highlights in their well-balanced duet. Claire Abraham and Matt Dauncey also provided the audience with a very satisfying vocal duo.

While there were occasional glitches with microphones and uneasy intros by the band, they can all be forgiven as the audience was gently transported into that world that only musical theatre can fulfill: taking heavy matters such as love, divorce, money and intrigue and transforming them into a smiling musical innocence.

I left, and am still, humming Who Wants to be a Millionaire...
