Sunday, April 12 until Sunday, April 20 Theatre Royal Bath.

Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials is brought to life by the Theatre Royal Bath's Young People's Theatre as they present the National Theatre adaptation in two parts on the Theatre Royal's main stage from Sunday 13 April to Sunday 20 April.

His Dark Materials is the Young People's Theatre's most ambitious project ever with a young company of 160 performing and working behind the scenes on a production which has been two years in the planning.

His Dark Materials is a stage adaptation of Philip Pullman's multi-award-winning trilogy - Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass.
This stage adaptation of the novels by Nicholas Wright was first performed by the National Theatre in December 2003, where it was a massive success.

His Dark Materials takes audiences on a thrilling journey through worlds familiar and unknown in a story of courage and humanity, about a boy and a girl with a destiny to fulfil.

For the two central characters, Lyra and Will, it is a transforming experience. Their great quest demands a savage struggle against the most dangerous of enemies. They encounter fantastical creatures in parallel worlds - rebellious angels, soul-eating spectres, child-catching gobblers and the armoured bears and witch-clans of the Arctic.

The story unfolds over the course of two plays (which can be watched in one day or on consecutive nights).

Both performances may be enjoyed independently; however, the full scale of the theatrical experience will best be enjoyed by seeing both parts.

The role of Lyra is played by three actresses; Leah Elston-Thompson 13, Caitlin Lees-Massey, 16, and Bethany Hocken, 18. Will is played by Jonathan Chorley, 15, and Theo Boyce, 17. Joe Reynolds, 18, plays Pantaliamon, with Evvy Miller, 16, as Stelmaria, Matt Williams, 18, as Lord Asriel and Chantal Preston, 18, as Mrs Coulter.

The production will feature 300 costumes and 80 puppets, created by costume designer Karen McKeown and her team.
